Hora, in blog format

It was bound to happen

what Horatiu is doing:

It’s going to be hard writing this post coherently, since anger seems to explode all over the place in spontaneous bursts. And that’s what I’m full of right now, except for a little bit of water since I was thirsty.

I don’t even know where to start. This makes sense to me:

I’m angry because I have to write this post in Firefox. Why do I have to install a different browser whenever I want to post on my blog?? Isn’t Apple supposed to be friendly for the Arts students (n00bs) who post about their useless lives on their wordpress blogs?? My ass. This is ridiculous. And how come Firefox fails at spelling? It’s underlining “isn’t”, “doesn’t”, and all that apostrophe-d junk. WTF. Now it just underlined “that”. Seriously, don’t have an automatic spell checker if you can’t fucking check for spelling properly. Learn to browser, Firefox. And you too Safari.

Secondly, and this one ties in with pretty much why I’m angry in the first place and why all the other thing piss me off, CMPT 275 can suck my left nut. So I was working on Deliverable 6. I had to first of all create the document skeleton, which was a pain in the ass cause it would always be double-spaced for some reason. The reason being that Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac is the most rushed piece of software ever, and it’s not actually double spaced. It just looks like it. So once that was figured out, I had to open a whole bunch of other documents made by other group members, and paste everything in there. Sound too easy? Try doing it all in Office 2008. It’s like smashing your fingers in with a hammer. If you have multiple Office 2008 documents open, which I did, there’s a trick you need to know for how to make sure your selected window is always on top:

Select the window you want to look at. It’s going to be selected, but you won’t see it, this is normal. Next, open a Finder window, or any other application window. MAKE SURE IT’S IN THE SAME SPACE! Then go back to the window you wanted to look at. You should now be able to see it. If you’re lucky.

There are, of course, a couple catches to this trick. Like I said, make sure you don’t go to another application in another space, cause sometimes Office 2008 windows like to follow you around. Say you open a file in Space 1. For no reason at all, it’ll change spaces to Space 2 at one point. If you think that’s not bad enough, you can’t change it back, so you’re stuck with working in the new space. Also, choosing another application that’s also part of Office 2008 won’t help either. It’ll just make things worse, making you angrier. As if you weren’t angry enough already. Thirdly, Office 2008 stuck it’s finger in Expose’s ass, so Expose doesn’t work properly if some of the windows involved are part of Microsoft’s damned Office. Give it a try if you dont’ believe me. You’ll have to change windows by Apple-Tabbing or some other non-Expose method.

So yeah, I finished all that after an uncontrollable amount of swearing and uncalled for extra effort. Plus, 275 is the worst class ever, so every second of all that was like an eternity in Hell. Having committed all that to the SVN, I had to post my contributions to the caucus, aka unnecessary extra work for 275. I tried posting a couple documents at once, no dice, something wasn’t working. So I started over, and added one file. That worked fine, except file 2 took forever. I finally figured out why, and it’s because caucus doesn’t like to add files that have spaces in the file name. I changed that, tried again, added it instantly. The last file though, just doesn’t wanna add. I have no explanation for it. Caucus just stuck it’s middle finger at me, and decided to sit back and laugh at my misery. After a while, the server timed out, and that’s where I’m at now.

Now I’m gonna take a break from all this venting by doing some more homework, for MACM this time. Nothing like the hardest, most impossible math in the world to put you back into a good mood.

One Response to “So I was having an OK day until…”

    1. I feel your pain. Caucus is the single worst piece of web software since Gradebook .. and at least Gradebook isn’t horribly slow.

SFU could easily replace Caucus with phpBB for FREE and bring their shitty web system into this decade.
